San Antonio and Bexar County Criminal Charges, Abbreviations, and Acronyms

Don't understand the language listed on your official criminal charges? The abbreviations vary throughout Texas and can be confusing. Some of the more commonly used abbreviations are listed below. Contact Paul Goeke if you have questions about your charges.

  • AGG SEX CHILD or AGG SEXUAL ASSAULT-CHILD - aggravated sexual assault of a child (certain kinds of sexual contact with a child who under 14 years old)
  • AGG ASLT - aggravated assault
  • ASLT - assault
  • ATT MUR - attempted murder
  • BATT - battery
  • CRIM NEG H - criminally negligent homicide
  • CRIM NEG H W/D/W - criminally negligent homicide with a deadly weapon
  • DUI - driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • DWI - driving while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs
  • IND CHLD/CONT or INDECENCY W-CHILD-CONTACT - indecency with a child (by sexual contact or by causing a child to engage in sexual contact)
  • INTOX ASLT - intoxication assault
  • INTOX MANSL - intoxication manslaughter
  • INVOL MANSL - involuntary manslaughter
  • INVOL MANSL NEGL VEH - involuntary manslaughter involving negligent use of a vehicle
  • MANSL - manslaughter
  • M or MUR - murder
  • NEG H or NEG HOMICIDE - negligent homicide
  • POSS CS PG - possession of a controlled substance (PG refers to the penalty group, which is based on the amount of the substance possessed)
  • POSS W/I DEL CS PG - possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver (PG refers to the penalty group, which is based on the amount of the substance possessed)
  • VOL MANSL - voluntary manslaughter
